Exhibition Statement
When we made the call for this exhibition, we thought that asking for artists to express the complications of living with layered identities would provoke unexpected conversations to emerge. This is true; we hope you will appreciate and engage with these emerging dialogues. What we could not have anticipated is how excitedly and generously these incredible artists embraced the call. We now know that when people gather around the idea of discussing and dissecting the experience of identity, a community forms. It is a community whose connective tissue is the fundamental affirmation of wholeness and whose unifying action is care. We thought that we were asking for the expression of identity, but instead we have gathered artists demonstrating the experience of identity. It is with sincere gratitude that we welcome you to Cuts Across: Artists respond to lived intersections.Artists
