Open Call:Cuts Across

Do you make artwork about your lived identity? Is your identity complicated and layered? We want your work in our gallery! This project is a point of inquiry, asking how different artists respond to the pressure to perform isolated aspects of our whole selves. Carnation Contemporary is an artist-run gallery in Portland seeking Oregon artists to submit work for our May curatorial project Cuts Across: Artists Respond to Lived Intersections.

Artists of all experience levels working in visual media (2D, 3D, photography, mixed media, digital media, installation, & more) are encouraged to apply. Our priority is to see your art, so please interpret this call broadly. We wish especially to welcome artists from underrepresented groups including BIPOC artists, LGBTQIA+ artists, working-class artists, women artists, disabled artists, parents & caregivers, and any artists facing systemic barriers to showing work in a gallery setting.

Eligibility: Oregon artists over the age of 18 working in any visual media.

DEADLINE: March 31, 2024

Cost: FREE

Exhibition Dates: May 4-26, 2024
